Day 1
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kasese town, around Nyakalejia, to the gateway to Rwenzori Mountains Park. From the park gate, you climb through rainforest along the Kyambogho Ridge for views of the Mubuku Valley and Rwenzori Mountains. While driving, you can see blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, some birds such as Turako Rvenzori, three horned chameleons. You will then reach Omuka Kizza Camping (2977 m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 2
In the morning, you will have a delicious breakfast at the camp, then you will walk along the Mahome nature loop trail in the Rwenzori mountains. You will walk through a bamboo and heather forest and will be waiting to see some forest elephants or their footprints in the area. You might as well find them at the hot springs. You will move along the ridge that leads to the Rukenga Valley, where you will see giant lobelias, which can grow up to 8 meters or more, and eternal flowers (mimulopsiseliotti), which are so beautiful to look at, which makes it a great place to relax and take photos. Finally, you will reach the camping at Lake Mahoma (3000 m), where you will have dinner and sleep.

Day 3
Today we will have breakfast at the camp and a walk by Lake Mahoma (the deepest lake in the Rwenzori Mountains), and then we will descend back through the Mpanga ridge, which will take you to the Mubuku Valley. Continue to Nyakalengia. Then transfer to the hotel in the city of Kasese.

Brief information on the area and route:

The Rwenzori Mountain Mahoma Loop Nature trail a 28 km long loop-trail starting and ending at the Mihunga Gate of the national park was built and opened on August 27, 2012 by UWA and USAID-STAR with support from the US Forest service to enable visitors experience the Rwenzori mountain ranges in shorter 1-3 day walks.
The Rwenzoris are a world-class hiking and mountaineering destination that offers multi-day (6-12 day) treks around and up to the highest peaks. For those who prefer something a little less strenuous but offering the same experience, the Mahoma Loop nature trail offers that experience which has made it the most hiked trail of the Rwenzoris ever since its opening.

Kasese, located in western Uganda, is the administrative center. It is located at an altitude of 959 meters above sea level, the population of about 100 thousand people. The city has a modern international airport. Near the city there are national parks: Ruvenzori Mountains and Queen Victoria, as well as the famous Mahoma Falls, etc.

Uganda has the snow-capped Ruvenzori Mountains, Victoria's large freshwater lake, and 10 National Parks. Here are some of them:

  • The Ruvenzori Mountains National Park is located in southwestern Uganda. The park has the third highest peak in Africa (Margherita peak, 5109 m).
  • Mount Elgon National Park - Elgon Volcanic Massif has 5 peaks above 4 thousand meters
  • The ghorillas of Mgaching and Bwindi are located in southwestern Uganda. They are famous for mountain gorillas. These are the largest apes. The park also has volcanoes: Sabinho (3669 m), Gachinga (3473 m) and Muhabura (4127 m).
  • Murchison Falls (Kabarega) National Park is marked by the beautiful waterfall of the same name in the lower reaches of the Victoria Nile River in Uganda, located 32 km east of Lake Mobutu-Sese-Seko.

  • Children under 14 years old are allowed on the route only accompanied by adults
  • The receiving party has the right to change the route according to weather conditions and the condition of the group
